Y-Turn
A youth-led transition program for young people aged 11-16. The program targets young people at two critical transition points: the move from primary school to secondary school and the move from secondary school into post-compulsory life (further learning, school-based traineeships, VET, apprenticeships, work, or other productive activities). The Y-Turn approach would ensure that young people:
- engage in dialogue about issues that matter to them
- articulate and express their values
- develop their own strategies for implementing change
- have a voice in the decision making process
- take responsibility and control for action and outcomes
- move gradually from dependence to interdependence
- experience real learning through participation in real tasks
Ultimately, Y-Turn aims to be a best-practice model of youth-led youth development with the aim of preparing young people to be engaged as life-long citizens and leaders for our communities.
